Bump set spike….bump set spike….that was the mantra of Lowwapaneu Lodge’s stellar volleyball squad as they fought their way to victory over Unami Lodge at the 2019 Section NE-5 Conclave. Held at Camp Ockanickon in Pipersville PA, Conclave served as a meeting between the Lodges in Section NE-5 for plenty of fun and fellowship. The boys in blue not only took home the first place win in volleyball (much thanks to Coach Srebro), but also managed to bring home first place in ultimate fris-bee and the drum team competition. Lowwapaneu’s drum team has gone undefeat-ed at Conclave for the past few years and 2019 proved to be no different.

Thank you to the brothers who came out to volunteer with the lodge at Harvest Fest. Lowwapaneu ran the Native American village which featured traditional games, food, NAA drumming, and more. Lodge members also assisted with several duties outside the village which helped to ensure the event ran smoothly.

As you may have heard, Lowwapaneu Lodge is hosting the 2020 Section NE-5 Conclave at Goose Pond Scout Reservation. The theme for the event is “Backcountry Brotherhood”, and it will Take Place on June 5-7 2020. Hosting a conclave is not an easy feat– over 450 arrowmen are expected to attend the event. The event will require a staff of around 100 people to be a success, and I highly encourage you to fill out the conclave staff interest sheet located on the lodge website and to attend the first conclave planning meeting on 12/27 at 1pm at the Scout Service Center in Moosic.

The Goose Pond Scout Reservation staff finished up their 99th consecutive summer camp season this past August. Roughly 1200 scouts were instructed skills from basic knots and civic lessons to important lifesaving skills. Order of the Arrow members were treated to a re-dedication ceremony on Thursday nights, followed by a fantastic feast. The Order of the Arrow has a rich relation to local scout camps, and are often the backbone of service to Goose Pond Scout Reservation. Many projects are going on right now at Goose Pond preparing it for its 100th anniversary, including a new entrance, new dining hall pavilion, relocation of the Cooks Cabin, and the continued construction of the Dan Beard Cabin. If you have an interest of serving on the 2020 Goose Pond staff, complete and submit the camp staff application which is now available on the council website.

Our third and final General Lodge Meeting of 2019 was held on Wednesday, November 27. A GLM operates the same as a Lodge Executive Committee meeting, except for the fact that all lodge members under the age of 21 can vote on issues. Upcoming events such as Merit Badge College, the Lodge Leadership Development, and Unit Elections training were discussed. Most importantly the lodge elected its new officers for 2020: Leo Kehagias as Chief, Nick Sherman as Vice Chief of Program, CJ Walker as Vice Chief of Administration, Matt Motichka as Secretary, and Shayne McAuliffe as Treasurer.
